The style of consumption: research of leisure practices of Russians

The article analyses the concepts of "consumption style", "lifestyle", "quality of life", "capital". The style of consumption is included in the more general concept of the lifestyle. The author considers such an aspect of consumption style as leisure of the middle class representatives. The leisure practices allow individuals to diversify their lives. Based on the empirical study the dynamics of leisure practices is discussed. The author distinguishes three strategies of leisure practices: easy, active and developing. Each of them contains its cultural capital. The active leisure practice as a parameter of consumption style takes its rise only if the leisure preferences expand by inclusion of outdoor forms of cultural, entertainment, social, or other activities. The use of strategies depends not only on the proactive attitude of a person, but also on his or her age.
