Stylistic effects of usage of ‘quantity representation’ in literary and scientific texts

Бесплатный доступ

The following article describes the functioning of units belonging to the lexical-semantic group ‘quantity representation’ in the Russian language, as well as the functional-semantic field ‘quantity’ in literary and scientific texts. The frequent usage of quantitative nominations in literary texts is related to their role as basis for many tropes and stylistic figures: hyperboles, literary metaphors, antithesis, amplification, irony, catachresis, allusions, inversion, etc. In linguistic meta language, ‘quantity representations’, despite their metaphoric basis, are primarily used in their nominative role, as discrete and non-discrete designations of language unit multitudes and special notions.
