Strategic security objectives: Austria’s approach

Based on the official documents and analytical papers related to the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer) reforms, the author concludes that the country’s strategic security objectives have not yet been finalized. This fact will give Russia the opportunity to play a more active role in carrying out the comprehensive discussion on security issues in Europe and the world involving the small states of the EU. The author believes that the provocative agitation and all related forms of escalation focus mainly on maintaining the status quo and implementing the domestic reforms. It is important to devise a national future-oriented model as well. The result obtained contributes to a better understanding of the modern transformation of the European security system based on the structural and political continuity. Due to the scope of surveys and the issues raised, the paper is of a deliberative nature.
