Article is devoted to economic assessment of strategic planning as mechanism of ensuring social and economic development of the Southern Federal District. The current economic and social situation of the subjects entering the Southern Federal District is considered. By results of the carried-out analysis, the strategic development plan for regions of the Southern Federal District is offered.
