Strategy of exhaustion: history and modernity

The article is devoted to the historical analysis of one of the methods of state confrontation – the strategy of exhaustion, and the influence of this method on their confrontation in modern conditions. The article discusses the use of exhaustion strategies in different historical periods. During the analysis, it was established that with the development of forms and types of armed struggle, the scale and nature of the strategy of exhaustion also changed. In addition, it was determined that in modern conditions, the strategy of attrition can be applied without direct armed confrontation, but using a policy of sanctions. Based on the conclusions of the work, the authors proposed the characteristics of the strategy of exhaustion, which depend on the goals and objectives of the opposing sides.
