The article considers the role of the new spatial strategy in the formation of the scientific and technological contour and the institutional model of accelerating economic growth in the Russian Federation to increase competitiveness. It is proposed to build a modern spatial strategy in the Russian Federation within the framework of the concepts of sustainable and inclusive development, as the main directions that counteract inter-regional imbalances and mitigate imbalances in the socio-economic conditions of individual regions. It is noted that space is one of the competitive advantages of the national economy. The main trends and problems in the national economic space are analyzed comparative dynamic series are Compiled and the sectoral structure of the gross value added (GVA) of the Russian Federation's subjects in 2016-2018 is calculated. The development of priorities and goals of Russia's spatial strategy mechanisms for the long term, at the present stage, is linked to the settlement of many accumulated and unresolved socio-economic problems and emerging challenges of our time. Certain shortcomings that hinder the effective functioning and positioning of regions as part of the common economic space are identified. Proposals are formulated to strengthen the interaction of state and market institutions by managing spatial processes and proportions. The main perspectives of strategic guidelines and priorities, institutions and mechanisms for the administration of spatial development of the Russian economy outlined by the state are updated.
