Reducing environmental pollution is becoming one of the most important priorities of countries and regions economic development in modern conditions. Structural changes and production modernization are traditionally considered as the main directions of greening the economy. Development of tools for assessing of various factors impact on environmental pollution is of particular relevance. The purpose of this article is to construct the functions of pollution according to the Russian Federation regions and to assess the differences in the influence of factors on the environment depending on the structure and level of economic development. Gross regional product (GRP), investment by sector, population, urbanization, share of different economy sectors in GRP, energy consumption, exports etc. were considered as factors in the article. The linear function and various modifications of the STIRPAT function were used for calculations. The studies conducted allowed us to assess the impact of economic factors on the Russian regions environment, including of development level and economy structure. Regional differences and possible prospects for their development with further economic growth and changes in its structure were also shown. The results can be used as an information and analytical base in the development of strategic documents at various levels.
