The article analyzes the magnitude, dynamics and nature of changes in indicators of cash incomes of the population of the Russian Federation and the Volga Federal District for the period 2000-2019. It is shown that the most significant share in the total income is labor income. In the Russian Federation, their share for the study period changed from 63% to 67%, in the Volga Federal District - from 40% to 53%. The second and third most important components in the structure of the cash income of the population of the Russian Federation are social payments (increased from 14% to 19%) and business income (decreased from 15% to 6%). For the Volga Federal District, the second and third places are divided into the category “other cash receipts” (decreased from 23% to 17%) and social payments (increased from 14% to 22%). The level of cash incomes of the population over the past 10 years in the quoted prices of 2019 in both the Russian Federation and the Volga Federal District has not changed. The level of expenditures in the Russian Federation as a whole has not changed; in the Volga Federal District, it has grown by 30%. There are no significant changes in the differentiation of average cash income indicators. Analysis of the dynamics of the shares of quintile groups in the total cash income of the population of the Russian Federation showed that there is a significant gap between the most well-off population by the total amount of cash income. In 2019, in Russia, the average incomes of the upper 10% of the population were 15 times higher than the incomes of the lower 10%, in the Volga Federal District - 11 times. It is shown that in the period under review and until now the dynamics of socio-economic development was insufficient. The problem of improving the living standards of the population and the growth of cash incomes of Russian families is relevant and needs to be addressed.
