The study involved 54 patients with coronary artery disease operated on under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The lymphocytes subsets were stud-ied before, at the stages of the operation and during the postoperative pe-riod. It has been established that cardiac surgery causes the formation of a temporary immunodeficiency of CD4-positive lymphocytes at two hours after CPB and persists up to ten days. It has been noted that the degree of immunodeficiency state depends on the duration of CPB.
