Judging and truth in "The apology of Socrates" by Plato

In the present paper fragments of “The Apology of Socrates” are examined from the point of their significance to clarify the function of the judge and his inquiry about truth during the trial. The specific Greek phrases used to describe the trial and the roles of participants are noted, which allows to highlight the corresponding cultural notions rooted in Greek culture. The oath made by the defendant proves to be a key element in the assertion of truth, while the ruling completes the trial not only in terms of temporal order, but also structurally.
