The essence of intellectual property

The paper presents various definitions of «intellectual property» given by domestic and foreign authors, which reveal the essence of the category. On the basis of these concepts, the approaches to the definition of «intellectual property» were identified, as well as the main differences and common characteristics in these approaches. The considered definitions allowed allocating within «intellectual property» two main categories: industrial property and copyright.
