Introduction: paradigms of modern statehood have specific features that reflect the historical, philosophical, legal values of a particular country. Sovereign statehood is largely formed under the political, economic, sociocultural influence of bordering countries, due to geographical predetermination being neighbors throughout all the history of their existence. The territories of these states are often subject to changes in their political and legal belonging. At the same time, the common history of neighboring countries necessitates a search for models of mutual coexistence based on the principles of respect for their value foundations. The study of modern Russian-Finnish relations determines the politico-legal discussion about Russia’s influence on the formation of sovereign Finnish statehood, which in recent years has gained newfound relevance in the light of the ongoing transition from a bipolar world order to a multipolar one.
