The article describes the biography (in particular, years 1775-1786) of Suzdal bishop Tikhon (Yakubovsky), who was considered the main candidate for the new bishop's chair after the capture of the capital of East Prussia Konigsberg in 1758 by Russian troops. By studying the biography of the bishop the author considers the dependence of the career of a bishop of the synodal period of the Russian Orthodox Church on the secular authority, which indicates the secularization of the religious power.
