The article is a review of the book by S. N. Lyutova, dedicated to the description of the life path of Hieromartyr Basil (Bogoyavlensky). This monograph is important because it represents an attempt to systematize information about the origin, church and social activities, martyrdom, heritage and memory of the hierarch. The entire work is permeated with the comparison of St. Archbishop Basil with Joseph the Beautiful, a son of the biblical patriarch Jacob, whose life was, as it were, repeated by the holy martyr in the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries. In addition, an attempt is made to penetrate the inner spiritual world of the hierarch, to understand his motivation and thoughts. Based on the above, the author comes to the conclusion that Hieromartyr Basil (Bogoyavlensky) was an extraordinary person, who worked for the future prosperity of the Russian Orthodox Church.
