Correlation between parenting styles with students’ mental activity and creativity progress

The purpose of this paper was to study correlation between the parenting styles with students’ mental activity and creativity progress. The study was carried on in Karaj (Karaj is a city in Alborz province, Iran) in the academic year 2011-2012. Statistical sampling consisted of students of the 9 th grade. 262 students were selected to the random sample (131 boys and 131 girls). Parents of the pupils took part in the study as well. While gathering data, the field and descriptive methods were used. In the survey, the researcher applied two kinds of questionnaires, the Torrance’ creativity and the Baumrind’ parenting styles ones. In addition to, what-if-analysis of the study applied the Student''s t-test, the Variance, the LCD test and the Regression analysis. The outcomes have shown the following: 1. There was a significant and a close inverse correlation between the liberal style with mental activity and the creativity progress. 2. Between the authoritarian style and the mental activity of students there was a direct and significant correlation, but there was not a significant correlation with the creativity progress. 3. There was no significant correlation between the dictatorial style with mental activity and the creativity progress.
