The article discusses the relations between the author and the hero in V. Nabokov’s novel The Gift which can be defined as a variation of subject syncretism and a self-parody. The first four episodes of the novel seen as a hidden prologue to the novel reflect and anticipate the voices distribution in The Gift as a whole. The author’s is undoubtedly a leading voice, while the helpful hero is also active and strives for independence.
