Antiretroviral therapy decreases the risk of complications in HIV-infected pregnant women in all trimesters of pregnancy, reduces the number of birth injuries and complications of the postpartum period, and prevents health disorders in neonates. The risk of vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child is significantly reduced by HAART during pregnancy and artificial feeding of the baby in the postpartum period.
