The Tehran tragedy of 1829 in the history of Russian-Iranian relation

The article discusses the existing problems of the different interpretations of the pogrom and murder of Alexander Griboyedov’s Imperial Russia’s mission in Iran in 1829. Te author considers that the tragedy was provoked with various factors including exterior ones. Specific atention is drawn to activity of some British officials in Iran of that period. Tis activity was aimed to reduce the Russian influence in the region afer the Treaty of Turkmenchay. Te author acquaints readers with new data from the Archives of Orientalists of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and comes to conclusion that the murder of Alexander Griboyedov and his companions in Tehran was very significant for further Russian foreign policy in general.
