Sectioning of 0.4 kV rural electrical networks is one of the technical solutions for increasing the reliability of power supply to consumers and protection against single-phase short circuits. The effect of using the sectionalizing device is achieved by reducing the undersupply of electricity to consumers during emergency and planned outages, non-payment for electricity by consumers due to undersupply, as well as eliminating the consequences of emergency outages by the personnel of power grid companies. (Research objective) To conduct a feasibility study for using the MKS-2-3V sectioning device (a multi-contact switching system with two vacuum contactors and three terminals) using the 0.4 kV electrical network of the Oryol region as an example. (Materials and methods) To assess the increase in the reliability of power supply through the use of the MKS-2- 3V sectioning device, the methods of addition and multiplication of probabilities were used. The characteristics of consumers of the considered 0.4 kV electrical network were determined using the Pyramid-Networks software. Using the Accident software package, information was obtained on the number and duration of emergency and planned outages of the considered 0.4 kV electrical network over 5 years. (Results and discussion) It was found that capital investments for the implementation of the MKS-2-3V sectioning device amount to 217,500 rubles. The annual economic effect of using the MKS-2-3V sectioning device will be 56,183-71,890 rubles per year, depending on the use of the automatic reclosing function. Due to the use of the MKS-2-3V device, it will be possible to reduce emergency power outages from 7.82 hours per year, typical for the radial scheme, to 1.8-5.45 hours per year, and planned ones from 51.9 hours per year to 16.53-18.3 hours per year.
