For cleaning soil and water from oil pollution the most environmental and safe ways should be used not forgetting the efficiency and financial costs. To eliminate accumulation of oil in remote places with difficult terrain and thin iridescent films on the water it is advisable to use physicochemical and biological methods. The use of sorbents for these purposes is one of the most effective physical-chemical methods of oil pollution combating. The paper describes the characteristics of the sorption materials used for removing of oil pollution of soil and water. The authors proposed various technologies for the capturing and collection of oil spills from the surface of the soil and water using adsorbents based on peat with the addition of magnetic sawdust. Timely cleaning of surfaces of soil and water from oil pollution will reduce the amount of environmental damage in case of emergency spills. Preliminary analysis of soil types will help to choose the preferred form of the material sorption for a particular soil type and the technology of its application and collection.
