The paper dispels the myth that corporal punishment of children in the family is committed for the sake of a child and does not cause any harm to him or her. The goal of the study was to identify the impact of the corporal punishment in a childhood on the perpetration of spousal abuse. Paper draws on the empirical data collected for the author by Levada Centre on the representative all-Russian sample in April 2013. Study found that 58% of the respondents experienced corporal punishment when they were children and that the probability of spousal abuse perpetration is higher for men and women who were victims of corporal punishment.
