The article analyzes key trends in the socio-economic and spatial development of cities in the Chelyabinsk region. The study includes a grouping of cities by population size and dynamics, as well as changes in the proportion of Chelyabinsk and large cities (over 100,000 people) in key indicators of the region, and an analysis of urban saturation. The authors revealed a decrease in the population, an increase in the uneven distribution of social infrastructure and business activity between the center and the periphery, and a reduction in the saturation of urban spaces. The results of the study emphasize the need to reduce territorial imbalances based on a balanced approach and create conditions for sustainable growth of all cities in the region.
