Trend of change in the result of economic use of the territory by national states

The paper considers the changes in the structure of the world economy in terms of the use of the territorial potential of national states. The study aims to analyze transformation of the aggregated result of economic activity correlated with the territory of the country. The authors divided 144 states into six groups according to the value of the real gross domestic product (GDP) per unit of state territory. In the calculation of specific GDP, the data of GDP of the world countries on purchasing power parity are used. Changes in the use of territorial potential have manifested themselves in the last decades of the twentieth century and intensified in the first decades of the twenty-first century. The indicator of GDP output per unit of the territory of the state serves as a proactive indicator of changes in the territorial structure of the world economy, as it allows to identify the trend of these changes earlier than the analysis of the dynamics of the real GDP of national states. In the twenty-first century, the share of the group of states with the highest GDP output per unit of territory of the state is growing rapidly, and the share of countries with the lowest this indicator is significantly reduced. States that make little use of the potential of their territory are increasingly lagging behind the main group.
