The article is devoted to the consideration of the essence, characteristics of the shadow economy and the causes of its occurrence. This article also examines the impact of the shadow economy on the economic security of the country. The relevance of the research topic is the problem of expanding the scale of the shadow economy in Russia, which in turn adversely affects not only the economic security of the country, but also national security.
