In the course of considering and analyzing the foreign reception of Berdyaev’s ideas, expressed in the work the “New Middle Ages” and a number of others, the main milestones of his personal, creative and ideological relationships with Western European intellectuals (in particular, with J. Maritain and F. Lieb) are revealed. The specificity of the perception of Berdyaev’s ideas in Western religious circles is revealed and typologized: within the framework of both Protestant (H. Ehrenberg, P. Tillich, D. Bonhoeffer) and Roman Catholic (K. Pfleger, B. Schulze, G. Koepgen) theology. The authors bring into consideration of modern studies of Berdyaev’s work in the West (in particular, in Germany: V. Dietrich, S. Reichelt, O. Hartfelder-Polandin). Also, based on the example of the concept of “new Christianity” by the Italian author G. Zamagni, the dynamics of the reception of Berdyaev’s ideas of the “New Middle Ages” is demonstrated, and their relevance in the context of modern European philosophical, religious-theological and cultural discourse is revealed. A general assessment of the reception of Berdyaev’s ideas in Western Catholic and Protestant theology is given.
