Theoretical perspectives in the study of regional economic systems

The article discusses various definitions of the terms “region” and “regional economic system”, as well as their relationship with the regional economy and economic space. Various types and typological characteristics of regions are systematized, and the author’s typology is presented. The types of regional economic systems are presented, their author’s typology is proposed, based on typological characteristics - the level of economic development, economic specialization, territorial organization, openness and sustainability of the economy, as well as interregional economic relations and administrative-territorial structure. The importance of understanding the regional economic system as a unified category of regional economy, which forms an independent economic space, is emphasized. The article is intended to enrich the theoretical and practical understanding of regional economic systems, suggesting an inevitable path of their evolution, a phased process of development and great prospects for their further study.
