Theoretical approaches to studying economic development under sanctions: a comparative analysis of the Russian and Iranian experience

The article examines the possibilities of Russia’s economic development in the context of comprehensive sanctions affecting all key sectors of the economy. Due to the need to quickly adapt to external challenges and the lack of such experience in implementing the “economy of resistance” before, it seems logical to analyze the tools and methods for restoring and developing the Iranian sanctions economy, since Iran has existed under global restrictions for almost half a century. Despite the similarity of the imposed sanctions, the primary economic conditions for the development of the two countries under consideration, as well as their current geopolitical position, are fundamentally different. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the possible implementation of the Iranian scenario of economic development in the context of sanctions in Russia through a comparative analysis to build trends for the development of the Russian economy in the new realities. The study provides a detailed analysis of the reasons for the imposition of sanctions against two countries based on the characteristics of the economic and political situation as the root cause. Also there were formulated and classified the main mechanisms for restoring the Iranian sanctions economy. As a result, there was assessed the aРlicability of these mechanisms in the Russian economy in the medium and long run.
