This study discusses the views of domestic scientists on the category of «competition». The article presents the essence of competition, its significance from the point of view of the influence of internal and external factors in the development of any organization, the desire of organizations in improving competitiveness in the conditions of the changing market and the interaction of market participants, buyers and sellers. Various approaches to the essential content of the «competition» category are considered, the points of view of various authors in the interpretation of the concept of «competition», as well as determining the competitiveness of the organization in order to highlight significant criteria in evaluating the effectiveness and achieve increasing indicators of the competitiveness of organizations in the market conditions, are considered.
