Thomas Hobbes was a prominent representative of the British political and legal thought of the 16 th - 17 th centuries. Since the 17 th century those ideas about the origin of state and law were forming, which correlate with contemporary reflections on the state and law. In his political-legal doctrine Hobbes highlighted the opposition of the natural state of mankind and political community. T. Hobbes applied his doctrine of natural state to explain what life would be like were it not for political community.
