The theory of natural law of J. Finnis as the revival of the metaphysics of law

Introduction: Finnis's axiology of law is one of the most authoritative doctrines in modern western legal philosophy, where the task of defining the ontological status of legal reality is set and being solved. This article examines the need for a connection between the axiological issues in the structure of the philosophy of law and the metaphysical approach to the disclosure of this problem. Materials and Methods: the subject of research is the axiological aspect of J. Finnis’s theory of law and its connection to the general paradigm of law metaphysics. The consideration of this issue is carried out on the materials of the presentation of the theory of natural law by Finnis himself. In addition, the object of the study includes a reaction to the theory of natural law, which has arisen in the circles of positive legal doctrines and criticism of the current state of the ontology of law in modern scientific literature.
