The article describes the views of the authors on such elements of the potential of the external environment of the enterprise as consumers, competitors and the state, indicators of market potential assessment. Such factors as the dynamics of world markets, the structure of consumers of products of agricultural engineering enterprises within the country and the consumption potential by its regions, the level of technical equipment of agricultural production in the country and its determining factors – the level of state support and the solvency of different groups of agricultural producers; promising export markets for spare parts, machinery and equipment for agriculture and types of agricultural engineering products in these markets; competitors and among domestic manufacturers of spare parts, machinery and equipment for agriculture, and localized foreign firms; summed up the results of the implementation of the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1432 in the Altai Territory; identified the limitations that impede the growth of the strategic potential of modern enterprises; the tasks of manufacturers of spare parts and mechanisms in connection with the transition of agricultural producers to robotics and digital technologies are outlined; the prerequisites for the consolidation of the efforts of the enterprises of the industry are revealed, the types of cooperation of agricultural engineering enterprises are systematized and the tasks of the associations being created are clarified.
