The article considers the history of sociology as a science at the border with other, in the first place, social sciences. The conventionality of the established interdisciplinary boundaries is revealed by correlating the rational choice theory with famous sociological traditions. Sociology in its history is more interesting and richer than the standard schemes that are used for its construction. In this interpretation the rational choice theory has been and remains one of the driving forces for renovation of sociological research program.
