The theory of the separation of powers as a formalized scientific doctrine was formed in the XVII-XVIII centuries. The constitutional principle of the separation of powers is applied in almost all the world's leading countries. In the article, the author discusses and analyses the main stages of creation and development of the theory of the separation of powers by the most famous British, French and American scientists, philosophers and public figures. Analyzing some opinions of the creators of the theory, the author tries to show the stages of its formation and development. The author, based on the submitted positions of the thinkers and the theorists of law, reveals some theoretical aspects of the theory of the separation of powers. During the preparation of the article the author indicates to the practical meaning, which was founded by the creators of the theory of the separation of powers and also focuses attention on the effectiveness and relevance of the theory.
