Territorial identification of an art object in the urban environment: case study of Blagoveshchensk (Amur region)

The article looks at the problem of representation of territorial identity representation by means of inclusion of art objects in the urban environment. Based on the field study in the city of Blagoveshchensk (Amur region) the analysis of territorial identification of place in the urban environment as an interaction of the subject, artifact, space is given. The work involves iconological and semiotic-hermeneutical methods of interpretation of the art-object placed in the public space of the city. Cultural and semiotic studies in the fields of architecture, design and public art are also encouraged. As a methodological basis the basic provisions of the actor-network theory are used, equating the object with the subject and giving it the status of a participant of social interaction. The conclusion dwells upon the fact that objects, being in certain relations, form space, set a variety of connotations and plot lines of its interpretation, and, consequently, identification with the territory - territorial identification. A person’s entry into space requires means-signs for territorial identification, which are the art objects of public spaces - art objects.
