"The silent Don" by M.A. Sholokhov and old-Russian tradition of painting battle scenes

The article is devoted to the Old-Russian tradition of painting battle scenes in the novel The Silent Don by M.A. Sholokhov. The issue about the urgency of research of this theme is regarded in the article. Some problem-thematic and poetical convergences are considered, controversial points in the aspect of the Old-Russian tradition are marked out.
