Multi-contact switching systems (MSS) are switching devices having 2 or more contact groups, which differ from other switching devices installed in electrical networks in that their contact groups are controlled independently. Application of the MSS allows flexible changing of the power supply scheme due to switching-off of the MSS contact groups depending on the situation in the electrical network. There is a need to classify the MSS and develop different types of them for use in electric networks, in which there are several sources of electric energy, including, for example, renewable sources, sources of small generation. The developed types of MSS can be used in all variants of power supply schemes, performed both with the use of air and cable lines, or mixed supply. The state of the ISS contact groups can be coded by both alphabetic and binary codes, which allows to simplify the subsequent coding of situations in the electrical network, in which there are different types of MSS. MSS can be equipped with the specified functionality depending on the purposes of their application. They can include the functions of APV (single and multiple), AVR (in a given direction of reservation), and other functions. The use of the MSS in power supply schemes increases the reliability of power supply to consumers and implement the principles of intellectualization of electrical networks.
