For Russian readers Venerable Bede († 735) is known primarily as the “father of English history” and hagiographer, while the greater part of his literary works is devoted to comments on the Scripture. In the Middle Ages a large part of his interpretation was included in the Glossa ordinaria (a collection of patristic comments of the Western Church). Venerable Bede is one of the few writers of the Church, that made a commentary on the Epistle of apostle James. “The Interpretation of the Epistle of James Divine” is the first exegetical work of Venerable Bede, translated into the Russian language.
