Objective: to evaluate diagnostic capabilities of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) combined with the method of liquid-based cytology and compare it with conventional method of cytological examination Materials and methods. Three hundred biopsies of the nodular goiter were performed in the medical center ‘Medgard’ during 2016. Non-neoplastic tumors were diagnosed in 74 % of cases (colloid goiter in 67 %, chronic autoimmune thyroiditis in 7 %), papillary carcinoma - in 5 % of cases; medullary carcinoma - in 1 % of cases; follicular tumor - in 13 % of cases. Comparative analysis of two methods showed that liquid-based cytology provided significantly fewer non-informative results than conventional cytological examination. Conclusions. 1. Ultrasound-controlled FNAB is the most informative method for differential diagnosis of thyroid diseases. 2. Diagnostic accuracy of liquid-based cytology is significantly higher than that of conventional cytology.
Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (fnab), liquid-based cytology (lbc), nodular goiter, thyroid gland (tg), thyroid cancer (tc), follicular tumor (ft), ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland (ue of the tg)
