Toponym as an information language code in folklore historical prose

The article considers the toponymic legends of the Russian population of the Republic of Buryatiya from the point of view of reflection in them the language picture of the world through such a language code as toponym. Toponyms, core of the toponymic legends, are considered as words, directly or indirectly related to national culture, mentality, religion of the people created these toponyms.
