Traditions of English social-criminal novel in Leo Tolstoy's novel “Resurrection”

The article deals with the typological similarities in Leo Tolstoy's novel «Resurrection» and the English social-criminal novel as a genre model. The analysis revealed the presence of some English social-criminal novel elements in the novel «Resurrection» both at the level of the plot, narration, characters and in the chronotope structure of the novel. However, taking into account the epoch, conditions of the literary process and individual author's consciousness, these elements were transformed into the final Russian novel, stating and considering the problems of crime and punishment in a new way.
