The tradition of charity in Kuban region in the pre-revolutionary period

The paper deals with the charitable organizations and the traditions of philanthropy that have appeared in Kuban region in the late 18th - early 20th centuries. The author emphasizes the correlation between the religious worldview of the Cossacks and their relation to the neighbors. The research analyzes the activities of various charitable organizations from secular organizations created by the individuals to those under the patronage of the state and the Russian Orthodox Church. Financial issues of the above-mentioned organizations are noted as well. The study focused on organizations involved not only in care issues but also in training and education of the younger generation. The author reveals the historical background to the creation of charitable institutions in Russia and Kuban region and analyzes quantitative indicators reflecting their activities in the period under review. The study describes the structure of charitable institutions in Kuban region in the early 20th century.
