The traditions of ancient literature in the Leonid Leonov’s novel “Pyramid” (hagiographic tradition)

The author considers the still scantily explored the role of the hagiographic tradition in the Leonid Leonov’s novel «Pyramid». The fate of one of the main characters – Matthew Loskutov – roughly corresponds to the hagiographic canon. However, by introducing elements of the lives of the novel, the author interprets them, portraying in an ironic way. Hagiographic tradition in the «Pyramid» is part of the carnival profanity, which appears in many episodes of the biblical stories.
