In the modern era of globalization, characterized by a high degree of interdependence, competition in international relations extends beyond economic and political leadership to include dominance in the realm of meanings and values. The global narrative, understood as a large-scale interpretive framework offering a particular vision of the world’s past, present, and future, has become a strategic resource of influence. Against the backdrop of this competition of narratives, China has been steadily strengthening its position, seeking to shape the cultural landscape of the 21st century in accordance with its national interests and ideological principles. In the system of contemporary international relations, traditional art has ceased to be solely an object of aesthetic perception or national heritage. It has transformed into a significant political and diplomatic resource, performing a number of strategic functions in dialogue between states. Its role has evolved from episodic cultural exchange to a systematic tool for shaping a positive national image and promoting national narratives on the global stage. This article examines the use of traditional Chinese painting as an instrument of China’s cultural diplomacy.
