The experience of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library on the use of the system of traditional catalogs for collecting reference and historical information about scientific institutions is presented. The technology of formation of authoritative data for a cluster of records in the database "Authority file of names of scientific institutions of the agricultural and industrial complex".
