Traditional rituals and customs of Abazins associated with the initial period of child's life

The article is devoted to the traditional ritual culture and etiquette of Abazins, in which the principles of parenting take an important place. The paper discusses the basic customs and rituals associated with the first years of babies’ life. Particular attention is given to the ceremony of the first putting into the cradle (гаралаціа), involving attachment of amulets to the cradle and other magical techniques. The authors give a brief description of the ceremony of naming of the child, and describe the rituals associated with the milk teeth and the first steps of the child.
