The tendencies of linguistic economy and redundacy are developed and described in Linguistics from various standpoints, particular-ly, the kinds of redundacy are distinguished. The article deals with the interpretation of different researchers’ points of views to certain aspects of economy and redundacy, which are necessarily analyzed to understand the processes taking place in the sphere of redupli-cation. The imaginations of redundacy/ecomony about reduplication are seemed to be unique only at first sight. The logic of reason-ing is simple: everything, that is repeated, is redundant, that means uneconomic. However reduplication is a unique phenomenon, re-dundancy is illustrative of its linguistic essence, consequently it doesn’t carry a negative connotation. Instead reduplication turns out simultaneously to be redundant in the expression plane and economic in the content plane.
Reduplication, linguistic economy, linguistic redundacy, uniqueness
