The study examines the transformation of democratic models during the transition from capitalism to post-capitalist systems. The authors conduct a critical analysis of fundamental contradictions in contemporary democracy amid global socio-economic and technological shifts. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Colin Crouch, George Monbiot, Wolfgang Streeck, and Peter Turchin, the research identifies key factors driving the crisis of liberal democracy, which was the dominant political paradigm of the early 21st century Eurocentric world. These factors include the increasing elitization of political systems, societal depoliticization, rising inequality, and declining public trust in democratic institutions. The authors investigate how the emergence of digital modes of production reconfigures democratic mechanisms and governance structures. Based on this analysis, they propose 5 potential evolutionary scenarios for democracy in post-capitalist society: «New Leviathan» (a form of digital totalitarianism), «Neo-communalism» (localized democratic governance), «Democracy 2.0» (institutional renewal and reformation), «Liquid Democracy» (flexible vote delegation systems), and «Technocratic Turn» (governance increasingly determined by algorithms and expert systems). This research contributes to ongoing scholarly debates about democracy's viability and potential transformations in an era of profound technological and economic change.
