The article analyzes the transformation of the state confessional policy in the Republic of Bashkortostan in the context of the Federal centre's policy in this area. There are two phases of transformation - the secular and the post-secular ones. On the secular stage (1988-1998) the confessional policy in the Republic of Bashkortostan as well as in Russia as a whole, represented a separation model: the government did not give preference to any religion and built its relations with the faiths on an equal basis. In the mid-1990s there was a transition to a post-secular stage (1998 up to present), which is characterized by the adoption of a cooperative model of the state religious policy. This model assumes a priority of the state cooperation with the traditional, most common religions, which in the republic are the Muslim religious organizations and the Russian Orthodox Church.
