This article proposes basic stages of digital platforms lifecycle and reveals the effect of ecosystems on economic growth and aggregate demand at each stage. Evolutionary and systemic approaches were integrated to make predictions and assess risks and opportunities of digital platforms for macroeconomic supply and demand. Methods of economic, mathematical and graphic modeling and general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis and comparison were used to collect data. The main findings include the novel quantitative assessment of the possible short-term negative impact of ecosystems on aggregate demand, provided that digital platforms have market dominance. It is concluded that digital ecosystems during the maturity phase will lose their advantage over traditional types of business, if the latter disappear, and may, in turn, lead to a short-term increase in transaction costs.
