The transit of party power in the Bashkir ASSR during the time of N.S. Khrushchev

On the basis of the analysis of archival sources, which are being introduced into circulation for the first time, the paper reveals the socio-professional profile of the first secretaries of the CPSU Regional Committee in N. S. Khrushchev era in one of the largest national republics in the Russian SFSR - the Bashkir ASSR. The author examines both general career models and the changes in these models as a result of the implementation of the post-Stalinist period's policy of personnel renewal for party leaders. Emphasis is placed on revealing the phenomenon of an “appointee” system in the form of a plenipotentiary representative delegated from the center in order to improve the managerial capacity of the region's national cadres. The leaders of the Bashkir Regional Committee of the CPSU in 1953-1964 are described as managers of a new type, whose distinctive feature was pragmatism, technocratism and the focus on solving not only All-Union, but also regional problems, related to the economic development of the Republic.
